It is our goal to ensure that everything we do whether in practice or client interaction is of the highest virtue and pristine ethics.
We want you to trust that your attorneys are doing the right thing.
The word "Arete" stems from the Greek philosophy which stands for "excellence in everything that you do." It is a personal and professional mantra that Arete Law subscribes to.
Whether it be through litigation, corporate structuring, or simply communicating with clients, our everyday activities are guided by this principle that we seek excellence in everything we do.
As attorneys, we have the incredible privilege and ability to help people every single day. This means more than just running a business, but how we conduct ourselves.
We are driven to be active members of our community and welcome the opportunity to help those who are in need.
We seek to be professionals who treat others with respect and dignity.

PHILIP MAURIELLO JR.
Phil is driven to help passionate and innovative business leaders build and grow their business. His passion stems from his time as a business owner and seeing all the challenges business owners face.
Before going to law school, Phil worked in the restaurant business where he learned the importance of quality customer service. He took those lessons and honed them even more when he and his family opened their own restaurant. During his time as a business owner, he saw first hand the ins and outs of the daily struggles a business owner faces.
That experience has helped him to combine his real-world experience and legal training to help business owners find logical and practical solutions to their issues.
He started Arete Law with the goal of improving the legal field for the future and to provide a better experience for clients.
Thomas Murray has been practicing estate planning exclusively since he was barred as an attorney. He handles probate matters, conservatorship, and trust administration.
Mr. Murray enjoys meeting with San Diegans to discuss the benefits of having a Trust drafted and executed.
Primarily, a proper Estate serves two main purposes:
1) Avoiding Probate; and
2) Ensuring that your assets are transferred to exactly who you want when you pass away.
May’s focus is in taxation particularly in preparation, planning, and resolution. Because tax plays a vital role in visa applications she integrates immigration law in her work.
Prior to law school, May had several years of experience in the Design and Construction industry as a Design Consultant. In this field, she worked with many small to medium sized businesses in various industries where she found them to be under served with affordable tax and compliance services. That served as her inspiration to go to law school and provide the services she found lacking for those members of the community.
May vigorously advocates for her clients who have fallen out of compliance with the IRS or the CA Franchise Tax Board and have pending or existing wage
garnishments or liens. As a licensed tax preparer, she is keen in reviewing prior tax returns and find errors that end up saving her clients money and effectively negotiate for better payment plans. After helping taxpayers get back in tax compliance, May strengthens her relationship with her clients by continuing to oversee regular mandated filings particularly for the self-employed and business entities.
